Coping with grief through poetry and music, sensing the vast earth and oceans of human suffering/love
Every session, one member presents either a poem or a musical composition of their choice (something published or recorded, if not their own work). That patient then discusses how the poem or song relates to their experience of grief and gives them a different perspective. Group members then describe their own thoughts and experiences of grief, hopes and so on, also referencing the piece presented, if they so choose. The facilitator helps clients to interweave their catharsis with other members' minds and words or to clarify differences. Clients learn from the group dynamics and reflections on process, also asked to be aware of how they are embodying this insight, what it feels like in their bodies to think as they do in the session. The hope is that they also find spiritual experience, related to the loved one and the poem or song, as a source of solace.
Sundays, beginning on February 2nd, 2025, 1:00-2:00 pm
Alleviating and redirecting anxiety
Yoga breathing exercises helpful for anxiety, as well as a simple pose and then meditation, would comprise the first 15 minutes of the group. For the next 45 minutes, the facilitator helps the group explore anxieties and what they mean to the person, as well as how they were induced or activated, and how to sublimate them for creative and constructive purposes.
