Alleviating and redirecting anxiety
Yogic breathing exercises helpful for anxiety and then brief meditation will comprise the first 15 minutes of the group. For the next 45 minutes, the facilitator helps the group explore anxieties and what they mean to people, as well as how they were induced or activated, and how to sublimate or redirect them for creative and constructive purposes.
Thursdays, beginning on February 6th, 2025, 6:00 - 7:00 pm
Reimagining and better understanding your own grief through music or poetry
At the start of each session, one member presents either a poem or a musical composition of their choice (something published or recorded, if not their own work). That patient then discusses how the poem or song relates to their experience of grief and gives them a different perspective. Group members then describe their own experiences of grief. Clients learn from the group dynamics and reflections on process. They are asked to observe what it feels like in their bodies to think as they do in the session. The goal is to explore their struggles with grief in the context of a poem or song. The hope is that the art will be a source of solace as patients work on being with their grief, cherishing the traces of the loved one in them and lightening that grief.
